i saw eat, pray, love tonight finally. i remember how much i love[d] the book and i like that the movie did it justice. i have yet to read committed. i'll get to it sooner or later. i want to read epl again but i have 500 books to get through. then i will reread epl for the 2nd time and the perks of being a wallflower for at least the 3rd time. i'm drinking green tea with honey and listening to gregory and the hawk, currently reading sloane crosley's how did you get this number and the september issue of elle. forgive me for the lack of capitals, its worse than ever. but not only do i hate capital letters, i am also extremely tired and have just sat through a 2 hour 13 minute movie. and nobody reads this thing anyway.

i heard all of this and more about Sex and the City part deux. and so i went with a heavy heart. would it ruin all that i love about Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda? No. Nothing could. i know that now. these four women... these four beautiful, graceful, fashionable, real women... nothing could make me love them less.

i won't spoil the movie. i will say some moments had me surprised, some moments had me laughing my ass off, and just like the first movie, it made me a litttle teary eyed. because there is a soft spot on my heart for these girls. they're not perfect. they're not always right. but they are real.


carrie, she gives me hope. hope that one day i, too, will be a writer, and women will clamor to buy my books. that maybe one day my closet will be full, my feet will glitter, and i will be married to the one i love, even if it's not until i'm over 40.

samantha, she shows me that you can have a banging body no matter how old you are [they all do], and that sex is nothing to be ashamed of.

charlotte shows me that we all judge, but in the end, we can overcome judgement to help out our friends who need our love more than our anger. and that sweating the small stuff leads to more stress than we can sometimes handle.

and miranda... miranda shows me that women can do anything we set our minds to, that we can be moms and lawyers, that we really can juggle it all.

the friendship of these women is something i vow to use as a model for my own friendships. i support my friends, they support me. i may not always agree with them, but i love them and stand by them.

This week I saw American Beauty for the first time. i know, i know, i'm a little late on the uptake. BUT i'm so glad i finally saw it, it blew me away. and now i'm especially glad that i own it, because over the summer i bought it as a double feature with The Virgin Suicides (two dvds in one case from target for $5!). i love thora birch, i think she's an excellent actress, and i believe this is the first kevin spacey movie i've ever seen... i could be mistaken. in any case, the story was so intriguing. the twists and turns, the dialogue, the way it all played out, and it all started because spacey's character was horny and fell for a high school cheerleader. it was just brilliant. i wish i could convey how i felt about it, but after a long day at work and hanging out with danny for his birthday, i'm exhausted.

yesterday was the poetry reading for those who won the contest. they had us read 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st. so, i went first, and read my erotic poem to about 20 people. last was arianna, who's poem was beautiful. all of her poems are beautiful, just like her soul. i love that girl to death. when it was all said and done, and the open mic portion was over, we got our prizes. i got a $20 barnes and noble gift card, ari got $50. now i am not one to complain about book money, but i thought we'd be getting a little more. HOWEVER even without the money, it was an honor to be chosen and it was a fun event. tuesday i'm reading with the faculty, and i'm going to be verryyyy nervous for that one. but alessia and danny will be there :)

tomorrow is andrea's fashion show at post. i really wish i could be there, but i'll be at work instead, folding clothes until 10:30. it gives me time to think and to be alone in a crowd of people. i like it. i'll be with andrea in spirit, and i'm sending to her my love and luck.

it's going to be a busy week, but i'm ready for it. i'm so happy i'm working again, and that things seem to be on track. i hope everybody has a peaceful evening and weekend

i'm watching garden state right now. its my go-to movie when i'm depressed. it's so weird watching zach braff act all depressed when he's usually so silly in scrubs. natalie portman is absolutely beautiful and this movie is so sad. it's my favorite. i see myself in every character.

500 days of summer

the past few days, i've been hanging out with Val a lot.. i haven't truly hung out with her in years, except for a few times at jamie's. but we've been hanging out, making plans, and it feels nice. nice to reconnect with someone from the past. it gives me a little bit of a sense of peace.

last night, val and andrea came over and we watched "500 Days of Summer." this movie really makes me laugh, cry, and want to vomit. it's sad, its whimsical, and its the most romantic non-love story. Summer {zooey deschanel} is such a bitch, and tom {joseph gordon-levitt} is such a pushover. he loves her more than he can say, and she won't let him in. she tells him she doesnt believe in true love, commitment, or marriage- but her next boyfriend after him becomes her husband. i've been in her heels, and his loafers. what i love about this movie is it makes me feel. its an emotional rollercoaster. it makes me examine my own life. it makes me believe that there is more out there. it makes me want to take a little piece of summer and of tom and carry it with me.

today i'm going to watch Jennifer's Body with them, if i can ever get out of my house. so not the same type of movie, but its funny. i cant wait for chinese food =]

"Jennifer" aka Megan Fox does indeed have one smokin' body.. the movie definitely had some smart moments, some "huh?" moments, and some "i can't believe that just happened" moments. i loved every minute, and if it didn't cost almost$11 per ticket, i'd go see the movie another time or two at LEAST. someone wanna take me?

BandSlam!!!!

Last night i saw BANDSLAM; yes it was pg, yes it starred a few people from disney, and i fucking loved it. Vanessa Hudgens is ok, but last night i thought she did a really good job of playing someone she normally isn't cast as. Instead of a girly girl she was Sa5m (the 5 is silent), an avid reader who keeps to herself and befriends the new kid. the "new kid" is Will Burton, who becomes the manager of Aly Michalka's character's band, and writes letters to David Bowie to no avail. Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe from Friends) is Will's mom. and i have to say, although she's beautiful as always, age is definitely getting to her. has it been that long since Friends left the air?

All in all i adored the movie, and if you want to go, i'll join you!

Okay so it’s a rainy Thursday morning. I just showered and put on some comfy clothes and I’m feeling like it is the perfect time to take a break from surfing the internet to talk about some books and movies. J

So I’ve been reading like crazy lately again, which makes me really happy because I feel like I’m exercising my brain. A few weeks ago I started reading Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liar’s series. At first glance, they look like they are fluffly little books about boys and gossip. But they really blew me away and surprised me. The series follows four friends; Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna after the loss of their 5^th friend Ali. Suddenly, their perfect little Pennsylvania suburb isn’t so wonderful anymore as the girls begin to realize that they are being watched by someone who knows all their dirty little secrets and is willing to expose them to the world. Each book reveals new secrets and new unsolved mysteries. I’ve read the first 5 and I’m waiting for the library to get in the 6^th! I’m pretty impatient…

Then there was Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin. This book was amazing. I read it in less than 2 days. I couldn’t put it down. It follows Naomi, a beautiful young adoptee who loses a coin toss. As a result, she hits her head and forgets everything that happened in her life after the age of 12 (she is now 17). She struggles as she learns who she was, and who she wants to be. This book is heartbreaking and sincere. I definitely would buy this and stick it on the shelf for a rainy day.

And now, I am reading Vegan Virgin Valentine by Carolyn Mackler. It’s a little “young” for me, but it’s still a good story so far. I’ll let you know how it is.

As for movies, I really can’t wait to see The Time Traveler’s Wife. I know it is based off of a book that I have yet to read, which is a but unfortunate but I guess I’ll live. It looks promising, and I usually admire Rachel McAdams’ taste in movie roles. She really is the most beautiful actress I’ve seen lately. She’s gorgeous, but real looking.

Also, I’m really waiting for New Moon to come out. It was my favorite Twilight book, for one. I know a lot of people may disagree, but wahatever. I am definitely team Jacob. Plus, I’m tired of hearing about it. I just want to see it. Before the Twilight movies, I really liked Kristen Stewart. She was in In the Land of Women, and Speak, and I thought she did a really good job. She is a good Bella but now she is so overexposed. I’m not so sure about Nikki Reed as Rosalie. She seems like she’s extremely nice, and Rosalie… isn’t. Then again, a lot of actors and actresses like to play characters that are different than themselves.

Someone recommend some good books and movies to me please. Oh, and definitely some music!

pop culture dose of the week.

so, this past sunday, america watched as daisy delahoya made one of the dumbest decisions on "reality" t.v. and picked london over flex.

reasons why london did not deserve to win:

- he left randomly for a while and broke daisy's heart

-he got a new girlfriend during his absence

-he can't even read. when 12 pack, i mean 'dave', is able to read wayyy better than you, you have a problem.

- he is a 30 year old without a steady job

-THE WHOLE REASON DAISY HAD THE SHOW WAS TO FIND SOMEONE DIFFERENT THAN ALL THE OTHER MEN SHE HAS DATED. she said herself that london was exactly like the rest.

reasons why flex did deserve to win:

-he is protective

-he is smokin'

-he was there for daisy, not for publicity

-he proved to her again and again that he would be there for her and do whatever it takes to be her man, while london copped out.

thankfully, i hear rumors that although she picked london in the finale, daisy and flex were together in the end and will be at the reunion show together as a couple. we shall see!

now, for movies.

orphan was a crazy mother fuckin movie that spooked the shit out of me. i wont give away details, but anyone who wants to adopt, dont go see this lol. also, be wary of children who seem like 'old souls'. this movie does a good job of scaring even people who "never get scared". if you wanna see it, i'll go with you!

random musings:

1. i'm not a ten things i hate about you virgin anymore. it was a great movie. it made me remember why i loved julia stiles, it made me fall in love with heath ledger, and it proved once more how adaptable shakespeare's plays are.

2. i love canada. why? degrassi. alanis morissette. alexz johnson.

3. went to borders yesterday and was able to buy just one book. i was so surprised at myself. "Pretty Little Liars" by Sara Shepard. its so good so far.

4. i just found out that in 06 they made this awesome movie out of a book i read about a year ago. its called "Candy" and its about heroin addiction. it stars... heath ledger.

whats on your mind?

spoiler alert!

oh. my. god. i am running on less than 3 hours of sleep in upwards of 27 hours. it's quite lovely, but quite worth it seeing as i LOVED LOVED LOVED Harry Potter and the hALF-Blood Prince. it did not disappoint me in the slightest. in my opinion, it was the best film yet, and seeing as the seventh book sucked, it will be the best of all. "The cinematography was amazing" <--beene. (i wont take credit for my beene's statement, but i wholeheartedly agree.!) it had romance, more comic relief than usual, and even a seriously scary moment where i squealed a little. those dead bodies were icky! and so so sad when Dumbledore died. no matter how many times i have read it, i was not prepared to see this scene in action. all in all, i was extremely pleased. my one big complaint is that they didnt show the pensieve scene where Dumbledore takes Harry to see Tom Riddle's family. it really adds dimension to voldemort and shows that there is a reason for him to be the way he is. he doesnt understand love, and that is why he seeks to destroy it. his mother died, his father left because he found out he was under enchantment, his uncle was insane, and his grandfather was an asshole.

my two little complaints are that severus and malfoy needed a bit more character development.

so i am extremely excited about tonight. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! go ahead and laugh, but harry has been a huge part of my life. the first book got me through being lonely when i was leaving east meadow and was scared to have to start all over. the rest of the books got me through hard times. and going to see the movies with all of my friends has always been a huge part of my social life. and, the essay that got me into cortland was all about Harry Potter! so you can make fun of me, but i'm proud to be a potter head.

so i just finished The Wackness, a movie starring josh peck, ben kingsley, mary kate olsen, and olivia thirlby (from juno!!) i absolutely ADORED this movie. i won't give a synopsis, thats what wikipedia or imdb.com is for! but anyone who likes good film should watch this movie. NOW! and to be honest, i thought i was going to think of josh peck as josh from drakeandjosh or the amanda show... but i totally didnt! he was so good in this movie! go watch! now!

tWILIGHT THE MOVIe

so, again i have seen Twilight the movie...

i thought they did quite a great job. robb pattinson is so good looking, and he really brought unto edward a new dimension. as for kristin stewart, not only is she incredibly sexy, but she matched bella to a t. 

since it was my second time watching the movie, and of course i have read the books, i focused my attention on the lush colors and atmosphere of the movie. i have to say, the use of cool colors in the landscape, and the way everything was majestic in its dreariness, i loved it all. the forest was especially gorgeous. and i loved bella's room. her walls, her  purple bed... it was so perfect, and i was even inspired for my own room.

if you havent seen twilight yet, go see it!
